I know, I know, I have not been writing on the blog at all since the new year...mostly just sharing a few photos on Instagram and Facebook. I think some of my last postings were of all of the new scents and candles coming for spring and that was it -- leaving me with so much to catch up on archive wise.
One of the reasons for my lapse in writing anything has been my sight. An ongoing 20 year problem that goes in cycles of severity and sadly, since September, the ease in which I am able to see has been growing difficult. It's an auto-immune condition that causes swelling at the back of the retina and decreases my sight substantially. When it first began, it was only in one eye and it took numerous years to get it somewhat under control.
Doctor visits, testing for things I never heard of and finally injections of steroids beneath my eyeball...which caused cataracts and loss of color distinction....and never return the vision loss back to normal. Plus, this condition changed the color of my eyes. I was born with dark brown eyes. Since this condition began, my eye color has changed as well to a golden, light green blue. Crazy stuff.
When the other eye began to have the same problem a year or so ago, my heart sank a bit because I was relying on that eye for sight. Add into the mix a pandemic where doctors offices are overwhelmed with patients with this same condition needing injections, and the world shut down for safety.
At the height of the rage of virus in 2020, when doctors offices were shut down...my doctor and one nurse took patients to give injections. Because a lack of treatment means a total loss of sight.
Years ago, a Rheumatoid Arthritis doctor wanted me to take Methotrexate to drop my immune system to sort of restart everything. The terrible side effects with that drug and the chances of it coming back being great, I chose to not take that, and continue with eye injections.
The stress with everything"life" from this past fall triggered an immune response...and boy oh boy, it is a doozy.
My doctor made time for me after Christmas and not only the one eye was full of fluid and gunk causing inflammation, but both were. Both eyes needed an injection this time...and as of now, have not responded by reducing the swelling enough to see. So later this month, more shots.
I am working to get everything updated and back on track, and hopefully with every passing day, the world will look a bit brighter to me.
